Newington, Conn. — Brian A. Garnett, 57, of Newington, Conn., son of Jean Garnett of Newburyport, and the late Ambler Garnett, MD, died on February 10, 2013, following a long struggle with pancreatic cancer.
Brian earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Broadcast Journalism from American University in Washington, D.C. He began his career in media with radio stations WNNZ-Springfield Mass., and WPOP-Hartford Conn., before becoming a reporter for WFSB-3 in Hartford. For 25 years, Brian was a first-hand observer and reporter of many of the important events that shaped the state of Connecticut, and developed an expertise on criminal justice and state government issues. He was the recipient of the Ellen Abram’s Award for broadcasting excellence. In 2001, Brian was appointed Director of External Affairs for the Connecticut Department of Correction.
Brian’s three children were the pride of his life. His son, Alexander, and wife, Justyna, reside in Vancouver, Canada; and daughters, Erica and Diana, reside in Glastonbury, Conn. Brian also leaves his devoted soul mate, Cheri LaBombard of Colchester, Conn.; and his brothers, Scott Garnett and family of Weare, N.H. and Jeffrey Garnett and family of Madison, Conn.
