Hampton, NH — Maria J. (Mitchell) Smith, 44, of Hampton, formerly of Salisbury, Mass., died unexpectedly Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at Exeter Hospital.
She was born March 5, 1968 in Pittsfield, Maine, the daughter of Joan (Carney) Mitchell of Hampton and the late Robert R. Mitchell, Sr.
Maria was raised in Salisbury, Mass., attended local schools there before moving to Georgia as a teenager. She returned to New England in 2003.
Maria was a loving person who had a smile and personality that would light up a room when she entered. This gift was especially evident when her granddaughter Aleah Gallant was with her as she was the light of her life.
In addition to her mother and granddaughter, family members include her son, Charles Smith of Salisbury, Mass., her fiancé Kevin Arnett of Hampton, her maternal grandmother, Ethel Carney of Malden, Mass., two sisters, Bonnie Armentrout and husband Lance of Seabrook, Gloria Mishoe and husband Carlos of Georgia, four brothers, Bob Mitchell and wife Sue of Salisbury, Mass., Donald Mitchell and wife Tula, Cliff Barchard, all of Haverhill, Mass., Jesse Scott of Georgia, nieces and nephews, Lance, Robyn and Ashley Armentrout, Sean and Kendall Mitchell and Dustin and Kristy Mishoe whom she enjoyed watching grow up and was always there with that big smile and a hug simply being Aunt Maria.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles H. Smith in 2010, her daughter, Rebecca Smith in 2011 and her father in 1976.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours will be from 5-7 P.M, Monday, December 17, 2012 at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.
