Claire I. Karampatsos, 89

Haverhill — Claire (Chatigny) Karampatsos, of Haverhill, passed away peacefully at home on June 6, 2014. She was born in Amesbury on April 18, 1925, and was the daughter of Desire and Ameralise (Dauphinais) Chatigny of Newburyport. She was the wife of the late Ernest “Stacy” Karampatsos of Haverhill, who died in 1975.

Mrs. Karampatsos was educated at the St. Louis de Gonzague French school in Newburyport. She lived in Groveland, beginning in 1960, where she owned and operated Claire’s Beauty Salon. She was active in the local chapter of the cosmetologist association and served for a time as its president. Upon returning to Haverhill in 1976, as a widow, she redirected her energy into a career as a certified nurse’s aide. She was a popular aide at Hale Hospital and Merrimack Valley Hospital for 17 years.

Claire was a fan of the New York Yankees, the New England Patriots, and the Boston Celtics. She loved to read, spend time with family, and would get a twinkle in her eye at the prospect of a day at the casinos. We will miss her generous spirit, her dedication to the needs of others, and her easy smile.

Her surviving family members include her son, Richard Karampatsos and his wife, Donna, of Longwood, Fla.; her daughter, Janice Coulter of Haverhill, Mass.; her sister, Valeda Teague of Exeter, N.H.; her brother, Robert Chatigny of Seabrook, N.H.; her sister-in-law, Kathryn Karampatsos of Haverhill; grandsons, Christopher Karampatsos, Phillip Karampatsos, Jason Karampatsos, and Daniel Karampatsos; several cousins; nieces and nephews; and great-grandchildren. Her parents and nine siblings predeceased her, as well as her niece, Heather Ray of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Your prayers for the repose of her soul are requested and appreciated. Donations only per your wishes, perhaps to a charity dear to your heart.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her calling hours Tuesday, June 10, from 3 to 6 p.m., at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill. A memorial service will follow, at 6:15 p.m., at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Linwood Cemetery, Wednesday, June 11, at 11:30 a.m.
