Praise for Nock courtyard, garden tour

To the editor:

We were enthusiastic and happy participants in the Historical Society's Garden Tour 10 days ago. The tour was the best in a long time with a wide variety of gardens, each immaculately cared for and interesting. Of particular note was the courtyard at the Nock Middle School. What a wonderful surprise to see the beautiful space where there was once only grass and crumbling cement. The school deserves enormous credit for having the foresight and the trust to allow a visionary group the chance to make something from nothing. And it is really something — a multi-level space creating a small amphitheater and a wealth of plant material (all native, I might add) to use as a teaching resource. Although she has already received plenty of kudos, Penny Lazarus has done yeoman service in leading and directing (not to speak of fundraising) a dedicated group to create this space. The Historical Society also deserves credit for including this spot on their tour.
