The first annual Canoe O a success

To the editor:

The Lake Gardner Improvement Association (LGIA) is very pleased with the first annual Canoe O. The day could not have been better. We had a good turnout for the first-time event and people had a lot of fun. We were surprised that paddlers came from all over New England, not just Amesbury. The weather was hot, but there was a good breeze and the thunderstorm waited until 10 minutes after the last paddler came across the finish line.

LGIA would like to thank both the participants and the volunteers, for without them, the day would not have been a success. This year the Canoe O race director was Shawn Burke, Monica Schnitger was orientation coach and time keeper, Mark Bean and Bruce McBrien were lake support, Ken Aspeslaugh was event photographer and Bernadette Lucas was responsible for publicity and registration. We also would like to thank the newspaper for helping us to get the word out and following the event.

For those who would like to see the race times and to learn more about the Lake Gardner Improvement Association and the lake, we encourage you to go to our website, www.lgia.org .

Hope to see all of you next year and the second annual Canoe O.

Bernadette Lucas
