Don't take name of Bresnahan off the school

Newburyport Daily News

---- — To the editor:

I was pleased to read your recent editorial concerning the Francis T. Bresnahan School and the naming of the new school building on the same property. I worked for Mr. Bresnahan when he was in charge of the summer playground programs. He was my English teacher at NHS and adviser to The Log, the school newspaper, and he put in many extra hours overseeing and guiding us. After college I returned to teach at NHS for a year and Francis Bresnahan was my principal.

There was no doubt that “Mr. B” loved education and was dedicated to Newburyport High and its students and teachers.

I am happy to see that Bresnahan School sign every time I come “home” for a visit and think how honored he would have been to see it there. Francis Bresnahan left legacy of children and grandchildren who are an integral part of Newburyport and his name should remain on the school.
