Kudos for Romney, none for Obama

Newburyport Daily News

---- — To the editor:

Anyone who believes that the chain of command from President Obama on down wasn’t trying to blame the deaths of Ambassador Stevens and the other three security guards on the anti-Islamic video for nearly two weeks is a zealot. My critics come to mind, one of whom would like me censored.

In the second debate, President Obama stated, “So as soon as we found out that the Benghazi consulate was being overrun, I was on the phone with my national security team and I gave them three instructions.” None of those three instructions were to send help to those being attacked. The president now claims he was fully aware of what was going on in the six-hour battle and did nothing to try to save the lives of those who were killed. For Mrs. Smith, mother of Sean Smith, the search for answers and anguish goes on.

However, my favorite quotes from Gov. Romney came on the question of gun control. This was when he elaborated on the violence in our inner cities. When the governor looked the audience right in the eye and said, “But let me mention another thing. And that is parents. We need moms and dads, helping to raise kids.” I couldn’t agree more. Stable home environments for children are the most important way children can grow up and become productive citizens. He went on to say, “So we can make changes in the way our culture works to help bring people away from violence and give them opportunity.” I have seen this my entire career as an educator.

We as a country will find out shortly which way the nation will go.
