Some things will never change

Newburyport Daily News

---- — To the editor:

Visualize, if you may, it is the year 2050, and the city has just elected a new mayor and City Council. In the mayor’s address, he or she said, “I intend to wrap up that 4.25 acres of land at our waterfront, and that’s a promise!” The new City Council president is setting up a meeting with the new councilors, stating, “I want them to be brought up to speed.” The NRA, which only meets once a year, was quoted by a member as saying, “We are drawing up a new set of plans!” The great-grandchildren of the original COWS stated, “We are waiting in the pasture to organize and attack!” The Daily News, seeking a native on the street for a comment, found one who said, “Where is the land they speak of?”

Meanwhile, one resident heard some noise from her nearby cemetery, and was told it was the author of this story rolling over in his grave.
