Amesbury needs more police officers

To The Editor:

I have heard people say they fear a marijuana farm. It would run the town down. The town would need to hire more police officers. To me hiring more police would be a good idea. Then may be the rampart illegal use of the far more dangerous drug heroin could be better controlled.

What really bothers me is the use of highly toxic and highly combustible chemicals in and around residential neighborhoods. Industrial businesses mixed in with houses in the Elm Street area are a hidden danger nobody talks about but proved to be a real problem this fall with the chemical spill.

Regulating the chemicals prevented the spill to leak out of control but what would have happened if it had exploded? How many houses and lives would have been lost. Why are the use of chemicals not contained to industrial parks? Why are they allowed to be within residential neighborhoods?

To me this is a far greater problem than a marijuana farm. What the town and its people should be checking on is not the marijuana farm as it is highly regulated but how the marijuana farm is secured from break-ins. How do marijuana farms in other states control this issue?
