Residents spoke, councilors listened

To the editor:

On Jan. 28, the Newburyport Planning and Development Committee, led by Chairman Ed Cameron and joined by the Newburyport City Council, did the city proud by convening a meeting in which they invited the city’s residents to speak their minds about the future of the waterfront.

It was a beautiful moment — the councilors honored their constituents by simply listening. This was a thoughtful and respectful thing to do.

In return, they heard insightful statements from every perspective. I hope everyone can catch this moment which was videotaped.

What a superb way to start our 250th anniversary year!
