To the editor:

I would like to thank you for covering the story of my husband, Don Rogacki, and the Be The Match drive to find a stem-cell donor for him. The drive was a great success. I believe we got 168 samples and that is after many were turned away.

The great support of community was amazing. Though this is a very hard time for us, it has also been a gift of love and support from all who know us and we are so blessed. I thank everyone who took the time and effort out of their busy day to come out that night to donate and share their stories of hope and love. A very special thank-you to our friends Don, Pete, Brian, Eileen, Denny, Helen, Don's brother Dan, his wife Allison, Don's niece Erin, my sister Bernadette, my mom and dad (Cecile and Maurice).

To our wonderful children, Garison, Tyler, Walter, Nick and Paul, for being so supportive and loving.

For all their help that night we are grateful. And please all remember to hold those dear to you, near to you everyday!

In local case, a double standard for justice

Charles Noyes wrecked his SUV, snapped a utility pole and killed power to an entire West Newbury neighborhood for almost 12 hours.
But Noyes has done far more damage to the integrity of our legal system.

Consider this before you vote

To the editor:
There are some things about the Bresnahan school building project that needs to be known.
1. The school will be built in a sandpit that was 50 feet deep. The present school was not built in the field for this reason. Surrounding properties were taken by eminent domain to build at its present site. The foundation and the building itself were built to hold a second story when needed.

Muddy tracks lead those in the race to September

Big Freddy was folding his newspaper when I joined him for morning coffee, and I asked him what was up.
"Where?" he asked.
"Wherever," I said.
"Well, if it's the Preakness, it's a horse race and anything can happen," Freddy said. "If it's the Senate, Republicans are a whisker closer to taking it over. If it's the House, Democrats will pick up some seats, but not enough to restore their power. As for the presidential race, Obama's against Romney, and right now that's a toss-up on a track that's getting muddier and shorter every day."
