Praise for Tierney's gun bill

To the editor:

Kudos to U.S. Rep. Tierney for continuing to work diligently to protect our children, families and communities. The representative recently introduced a “smart gun” bill that would require all newly manufactured handguns to be personalized within two years. These handguns would only be able to be operated by its authorized users. The measure would also provide for grants to continue to develop and improve handgun personalization technology.

Gun advocates have wasted no time in expressing their criticism. I look forward to the day when these same advocates choose to support innovative gun safety initiatives instead of simply choosing the status quo. Our system is broken and I applaud any elected official who is willing to look outside the box to save even one innocent life from a gun used irresponsibly.

Thank you Rep. Tierney for all his efforts! This mom will never forget all that he does.
