A thank-you to Amesbury officials

Newburyport Daily News

---- — To the editor:

I would like to take a moment to thank Amesbury city officials Nipun Jain, Joe Fahey, Dennis Nadeau and the entire Amesbury Planning Board for their diligence, professionalism and courtesy recently, during the approval process for our new pylon sign at Amesbury Uncommons on Route 110.

We were looking to replace a 28-year-old, tired, secondary sign for what had been our former kitchen and bath center, with an architecturally pleasing new primary sign. Before filing our sign application, I met with Nipun and Joe Fahey to explain what I was hoping to achieve and to get their input.

Both provided excellent guidance regarding what was allowable and helped me to alter the sign dimensions and design slightly to fall within the acceptable parameters. These changes were incorporated into our design before filing our application, saving us time and trouble. Nipun did a site visit with me the next day and offered relevant ideas that helped the entire project run smoothly. After that meeting, Dennis Nadeau was instrumental, imparting his knowledge and assistance to the planning process.

When we attended the Planning Board meeting, the entire board was respectful, helpful and understanding of what we were trying to accomplish. They asked insightful questions and had a couple of valid concerns, which we addressed to their satisfaction at a second meeting. We found the entire process to be handled in an expeditious, helpful and professional manner. The result has been the addition of a beautiful new sign that enhances the appearance of our commercial district and provides visibility and support for our business tenants.

Owning and operating Eastern Lumber in Amesbury for so many years, I have had many opportunities to work with city government. I want to say that I sincerely appreciate the professionalism and competence we have enjoyed in dealing with everyone from Mayor Kezer to all the folks I have mentioned here to the entire staff at the Town Hall. This recent experience was no exception and further reinforced what we believe was our wisdom in reinvesting in Amesbury with our purchase and development of Amesbury Uncommons. Thanks again to everyone involved!
