Race road closures cause problems

To the editor:

On Sunday, Oct. 20, at noon, my husband and I were riding south on Interstate 95 and found the exit to Route 113 closed as a police officer was waving us on.

We took the next exit leading us to Turkey Hill Road where we came upon many runners, preventing us to get to our home on Philips Drive. Upon taking Hale Street to Low Street, there still were many more on Hale Street.

One young lady was running in the middle of Hale Street where traffic was moving both ways, making me wonder why she didn’t stick to the side of the road. I came very close to striking her.

Why wasn’t there a notice in the paper that the exit would be closed so I could have taken the Amesbury exit?
