Kudos to Don Hennigar

To the editor:

Congratulations to Don Hennigar, cross-country and track coach at Newburyport High School, for a pair of major honors. Don was recently named Cape Ann League assistant coach of the year for his work with Tim Foley in track, and recently was selected to the Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

That Don has long been outstanding in his field is a secret to no one familiar with the sport in this region. As a fellow CAL track coach and runner with a few Trav’s Trail run mugs on the shelf, I know Don to be a coach, race director and runner who is dedicated to his sport and to his students with a focused yet calm and accessible demeanor.

Newburyport is fortunate to have people like Don Hennigar and Tim Foley in its coaching ranks. I will presume that the community knows this; now the wider world of sport does too. Well done, Don.
