A great Fourth of July celebration

To the editor:

We had a great, fun-filled, old-fashioned July 4th celebration on the Rowley Town Common. There are so many who worked so hard on the production of the Town of Rowley's 4th of July celebration. The following list contains the names but cannot express the extent of participation and time spent by all those volunteers. The recreation subcommittee spent hours behind the scenes making this 4th of July a real treat for all. The volunteers worked for weeks leading up to the festivities and throughout the day, making it a memorable event.

It is with gratitude and appreciation that the following are recognized: Police Department — Chief Barry and officer Tom Hill; Rowley Fire Department — Chief Broderick, Joseph Merry, Don Merry and David Carpentier; Children's Parade — Mary Clare Dalzell; Children's games — Kara McCormack; Rowley Municipal Light — Mark Anderson and Eric Grover; Action Ambulance — Chris Palmer, Darlene Riley and David Wood; guest speaker — Capt. Terrance Hart, USCG retired; Parks and Recreation Committee — Michael Quinn, Maryann Levasseur, Kurt Annen, Tim Southall, Patricia DiFiore and Glenn Fougere; Rowley Historical Society — Robert Merry; Rowley Veterans Association Honor Guard — Roy Ricker, Ted Gately, Fred Hardy and Reed Wilson; Rowley librarian — Pamela Jacobson; Kayem Foods — Ray Monkiewicz; Savage Seafood — Carl Savage; Rowley House of Pizza — George Dagas; Sal's Pizza — Jessica Harrison; White Farm Ice Cream; Shaw's Ipswich — Carlo Vega; Shaw's Salem — Mark Webber; Cook's Rubbish — Jack Cook; Defiance Graphics — Paul Taridid; Food table volunteers — Kay Dalzell, Patty Cummings and Jami Snow; Selectmen — Jack Cook, Stuart Dalzell, Richard Cummings and Robert Snow.

We also appreciate the folks that turned out to support the event. This year's festivities were an experiment to see if interest in an old-fashioned Fourth on the common would be enjoyed by the town; it was an overwhelming success. During the day, there was discussion about doing it again next year, on Saturday, July 3. There will be more information to follow for the many opportunities for all.

Thanks to every one of the volunteers who willingly gave up their Fourth of July to give our town a fun-filled day.
