Kerry, college in wrong

To the editor:

As a believer in, and preacher of, the one and only saving gospel of God, my hope is that you will permit me a few words of critical comment on the recent lecture by Sen. John Kerry at Gordon College on March 19 — a lecture given affirmative editorial comment in your paper on March 21. For, having read your quotes of what the esteemed senator said and listened to the entire lecture on the college website, it is clear that Sen. Kerry and the pseudo-evangelical Gordon College do not understand or believe the teaching of Christ.

For the purpose of Jesus in answering the question, "What is the greatest commandment in the law?" (Mark 12:28-31) was not to put Himself in league with the fallen teachers that Sen. Kerry mentioned. It dishonors Christ to put Him in league with anyone else because He is the incarnate God, the unique sinless Son of God, the Second Person of the Holy Trinity of God, who in all things is to have the pre-eminence (Colossians 1:18). Jesus declared what the two greatest commandments are to expose all mankind's failure in keeping them, including this writer. For this is clearly seen by what Jesus says in response to the lost religious leader who agreed with His answer: " ... thou art not far from the Kingdom of God ... " (Mark 12:34). Our knowing what the greatest commandments of God are is not the same as keeping them! For the Bible is crystal clear in declaring that no man, regardless of his religious convictions or persuasion, has kept them (Romans 3:23) .

The biblical and saving gospel is not believed by either the Senator or Gordon College, as seen by what the senator said about us all worshiping the same God and by Gordon College not printing a critical rejection of what he said. The above shows that they are offended at truth declared by Jesus about Himself and affirmed by Peter when preaching to his religious Jewish brethren — truth offensive to the religious of the world, even pseudo-Christians, but not to anyone who has come by the grace of God to see that Jesus alone could have saved them from their sin of breaking the greatest commandments.
