Candidates should focus on issues

To the editor:

Many of my friends, neighbors, and fellow citizens wrote letters to The Daily News published before the election. I want to thank them for taking the time to share their thoughts and insight, which helped me with some of my decisions.

Having read the election coverage in today’s paper, I’d like to offer a comment of my own. Your reporters noted the tone and negativity of some of the campaigns, adding that it is unclear whether some controversies had an impact on the results. I can assure them that indeed it did. While I thank all these worthy candidates for their tireless efforts and encourage them to stay engaged in the future, I also recommend that next time, they focus on the issues of true concern to the voters.
