Khatibs made wise, caring decision

To the editor:

I was moved to write this letter in response to Matt and Karyn Khatib’s announcement that they will step away from a fight to keep their name and, instead, donate money to a local nonprofit organization. Whether it is through a blood drive for the American Red Cross, collecting toys for Toys for Tots or any of the many other ways, they support the Greater Newburyport community, Matt and Karyn demonstrate a generous, caring and engaged commitment to all of us who benefit from their benevolence.

On a personal note, the Khatibs have been more than helpful to me in my fundraising projects for The Actors Studio of Newburyport and I know that they graciously respond to other community projects as well.

Their decision to take the high road in letting go of what would surely have been a protracted, painful process and, at the same time, include their daughters in the renaming of their business is not only a practical step into their future but also a very warm and charming one. In a world where common sense and clear thinking is all too often in short supply, I applaud Matt and Karyn for both their level-headed solution and their willingness to move forward in their lives.
