Sales of NHS poems to aid Haiti relief

To the editor:

On behalf of Mrs. Szabo's creative writing class, I would like to thank the community for their support of our recent Poems for Pettengill project. For this project, a group of creative writing students (including myself) sold mail order poems, donating the proceeds to the Pettengill House in Salisbury. Through the generous support of the community, we raised $160 in charitable contributions for the Pettengill House. At the same time, we have been able to practice our poetry writing skills.

We have decided to do this project again, this time donating the proceeds to Newburyport High School's Heal Haiti charity. Many students are raising more money to send to Haiti through several different groups throughout the school and, not wanting to miss an opportunity to help those in need, we are putting forth a lot of effort to get the Poems to Heal Haiti project up and running.

Thanks again to all those who contributed to our first poetry project. We hope this one will be as successful, if not more so. Thanks also to this newspaper for giving us publicity to further the success of these projects.
