Simple question met with rudeness

To the editor:

Those of us, who work/reside on the property at 9 Spring Lane in Newburyport are well aware of the problems entering and leaving. This is all due to the equipment that is there as a result of modifications to the 95 bridge. Hopefully, a solution will be found to eliminate this in the near future. Folks have been late for work and the young boy, late twice for school.

The three times I couldn’t get by, two of those times were handled quite well.

But Tuesday, Sept. 10, was an exception. As I approached the entrance to the grounds, I was unable to cross the dike. There was a truck with no one in the cab. I left the car and went on the construction site entrance. There were four hard hats standing there. To no one in particular, I asked, “Who owns the truck? There is no one in the cab and I need to get by.” One of those four answered, “What truck?” I said “that one on the dike, there is no one in it.” His answer: “Oh, that truck.”

I answered that there is a house up there and I need to get to it. He came back, “What is it, a whorehouse?” I don’t believe the owners of the property, who reside in Germany, would appreciate having their residence referred to as a whorehouse.

Besides indicating to me his I.Q. was minus something, it also indicated to me that he and Jethro Clampett of “The Beverly Hillbillies” spent all those years in the fourth grade together.
