Every vote counts; why did some not bother?

Newburyport Daily News

---- — To the editor:

The recent debacle of recounts and concerns for perhaps an official legal procedure to determine the “real” winner only serves to prove what we all know for sure: If every registered voter of Amesbury had taken the time (very little time, actually) to vote, we would know without a doubt who was wanted as the next mayor.

The voters who dearly wanted Mayor Kezer to continue had to be more than those who actually turned out to perform their privilege of voting. Those who hoped to see Mayor-elect Gray succeed could have easily assured that outcome by simply casting their votes and not leave it three that determined the outcome!

Our country has become apathetic about politics and politicians, some of it deserved; but we are citizens of whatever place we live in and we get to determine who will lead us in whatever manner we have decided they will go.

Shame on those who couldn’t find the time to vote and save the town of Amesbury the awful expense of a recount for three votes! People in other parts of the world literally are willing to die or suffer to exercise their privilege that we so easily ignore.

Next election, let us all participate and truly voice our opinion as to who will lead.
