To the editor:
Yet again the selectmen of the Town of Newbury have made a regressive non-decision on the fate of the Parker River by choosing to do nothing with the town-owned Larkin Mill Dam. They have ignored the expert advice and wisdom of Newbury's conservation agent, Doug Parker, state and federal agencies as well as their own town report, partially paid for by you and me, the taxpayers of Newbury.
The crumbling Larkin Mill Dam is a major liability and must be removed or repaired. One accident at this dam, an injury or drowning, could provoke a major lawsuit against the town.
This failing dam needs to be removed to restore clean-flowing water to our Parker River and bring back river herring unable to move up the deteriorated fish ladder. Please support David Mountain, the lone selectman advocating for a clean and healthy Parker River.
