Recent Supreme Court decision is appalling

To the editor:

The conservative Judge Alito who pushed through a law to freely allow corporations and multi-national corporations to spend unlimited amounts of money to buy our elections is a direct blow against our democracy and freedom as Americans. Washington is already corrupt enough with 38,000 lobbyists buying up politicians that benefit their clients instead of the average American worker and families struggling to survive.

The for-profit health insurance companies spend a million dollars a day to block any kind of health care reform so that they could continue raking in billions of dollars in profits with their CEOs making millions of dollars at the workers' expense. Monthly premiums have become so high they are bankrupting businesses, single payers and families. A health insurance company in California just raised their rates by 40 percent, despite billions of dollars in profits this last quarter. This kind of runaway greed has got to stop.

I recognize that the present health care bill is not acceptable and needs a lot of work, but it's about time the two parties stopped fighting and spewing hatred at each other and got something done for the working public.

The pharmaceutical companies wrote the prescription drug bill in the middle of the night behind closed doors allowing them to charge the public $100 for a medication they sell for $4 in Mexico, and prohibit seniors from going into Canada to get their medications at a fraction of the price they pay here.

On Bill Moyer's TV program, we learn that Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell has received millions of dollars from a foreign corporation that has business interests in the state of Louisiana. Just what kind of a deal was made and how is it going to affect us? The corruption was bad enough before the Supreme Court ruling, but it's going to get much worse. Any politician who receives millions from special interests should have all this information on public record so we can vote them out of office if they don't work for us. It's time we took our country back.
