No condominiums on our waterfront

To the editor:

It’s 2013 and time for Mayor Holaday to make good on her campaign promise for an open waterfront. I, like many, voted for her for this reason. She has the power to prevent 20 to 30 condos from being built by reappointing four members of the NRA who do understand the meaning of “open waterfront.”

She has not hesitated in the past of replacing those who are not on the same page as she. Either she has changed her mind on this matter or lied to us from the start. Most photos published on these condos are aerial or long-range views. Walk down to the area, look up and see trees and sky. Then picture a 35-foot-high brick wall containing condos. This is not what we wished for when we filled out many surveys and votes in the past and voted in the election. Be not misled, condos are the main interest of any developers. Maybe this is John Shanley’s way of getting back at the voters of Newburyport.

If the NRA thinks we are buying the theory that the land must be sold to fund improvements on this property, those of us with an IQ over 3, say nay. Parking revenues will be more than adequate to pave, mark parking spaces, landscape the area and build additional restrooms with showers. There are many ways to be heard, write letters, contact the mayor, as voters sign the petitions available through various organizations for an open waterfront. You could contact members of the NRA; however, I don’t like your chances of being understood.
