Consider benefits of model airplanes

To the editor:

A recent article in The Daily News caught my attention relative to the good people of West Newbury restricting the flights of model airplanes.

Well, in my case, it was these model airplanes that lit the spark of creativity back in the poverty of the ‘40s and ‘50s, which allowed me to move on to build boats, buildings and later the construction of high-rise structures in Boston, New York and Chicago. Today, with my spouse of 57 years, we are enjoying retirement at a prestigious golf course on the Gulf of Mexico with our boat at our back door.

Without the model airplanes of yore, I can surmise that I would still be aimlessly walking the banks of the Merrimack.
