To the editor:
On March 4, 1883, Miss Anna Jaques of Newbury gave $25,000 (almost $600,000 in today’s dollars) to her physician, Dr. F.A. Howe, for the purpose of establishing a hospital in Newburyport. Since that day, Anna Jaques Hospital has relied on the generosity of the Greater Newburyport community to provide financial support to allow the nonprofit hospital to carry on its noble mission of providing quality health care to the region’s residents and visitors.
Every year the Anna Jaques Community Health Foundation calls upon the skilled and caring employees of Anna Jaques Hospital to make a gift to their hospital. Together, employees from all departments have pledged over $62,000 this year to help continuously improve patient care. In acknowledgement of these gifts, raffle prizes awarded to Anna Jaques employee donors, aka “Anna’s Angels,” were graciously donated by the following area businesses:
Nunan Florist & Greenhouses in Georgetown, Smitten Extraordinary Clothing and Accessories in Newburyport, Domino’s Pizza in Newburyport, Plum Island Grille in Newbury, Oregano Pizzeria & Ristorante in Newburyport, Hungry Traveler Restaurant in Salisbury, The Birdwatcher in Newburyport, Beach Plum Farm in Salisbury, Brown’s Seabrook Lobster Pound and 99 Restaurant in Seabrook, and Flatbread Company in Amesbury.
The Anna Jaques Community Health Foundation greatly appreciates these businesses not only for their kindness and generosity, but also for recognizing and appreciating the men and women dedicated to outstanding patient care at Anna Jaques. These employees, from every department, not only elevate the level of care through dedication to their work, but also by giving generously. They are truly Anna’s Angels.
