To the editor:
I don’t understand why so many gun owners are worried, and from my perspective seemingly paranoid, about having ALL of their guns taken away? Did I miss some epic historical event where we nearly lost our right to have guns? Possibly the media coverage is biased by the more vocal responders who happen to be fearful gun owners, versus a minority who have recently commented about being more fearful of losing their loved ones.
I admit that I am in agreement with most of the comments I have read and heard acknowledging that the Second Amendment was written at a time in our country’s history where we needed the protection provided by each patriot. But as a country, do we still need that kind of protection? I think not. And as a legal gun owner and occasional gun user, I don’t understand why anyone would need, or want, an automatic weapon or large-capacity clips. Reloading is not such an onerous task.
I, like many others, do not have an answer, but I strongly believe that we must do something, actually many things, to try and avoid future gun atrocities.
