When a politician has the privilege of appointing representatives of Newburyport to any one of the local boards, that person should realize their decision could impact residents and visitors for years to come.
In the case of the Waterfront Trust, decisions clearly affect Newburyport’s open space, local boating and presenting a safe environment for families to enjoy the waterfront. First and foremost, that politician should consider Newburyport, the appointee’s views and responsibilities he or she will be facing. If an appointee turns out to be disruptive and confrontational and has an anti-progress attitude, then City Hall has failed in its decision.
