Moo, if you want to

Newburyport Daily News

---- — To the editor:

I’m impressed with the amount of time the cows have to sit down and moo away in this area of the paper about the big bad waterfront development plan. For those of you, like me, who have less time but hold a more forward-thinking view of the plans presented by the NRA — and for those who are still unsure — I would encourage you to get engaged and not let your thoughts go unheard at City Hall. I need only point out that the cows have clearly taken great pride in impeding any kind of development on the waterfront over the years, including a reasonable plan to have developed a hotel years ago.

Imagine. They suggest that all development is bad. If that holds true, then why do so many people love David Hall and the Tannery development project? Development is a good thing. Children develop. Plans develop. And yes, communities develop. It’s called growth. And with it can come vibrancy and positive evolution. The NRA is not the devil, folks. In fact, they are hardworking Newburyporters who are pouring their hearts and minds into doing the right thing — for all. And I thank them for answering all my questions.

So please get engaged. Take a side. Even it means becoming a cow. But if you do, please bring some oil. Their squeaky wheel tactic is getting old, and frankly, is disrespectful to those of us who are looking ahead at what the true benefits of this extremely well-thought-out development plan are to this area of the city and our community at-large. Their idea: Wait for Karp. Personally, I’d prefer to control our own destiny now and demonstrate that the citizens of this community are passionate about placing our own bricks. And by the way, that’s exactly what he’s hoping for, too.
