Newburyport Daily News
---- — To the editor:
Resuming my usual daily walk, but first since the blizzard, I was surprised this morning by the places in which my way was blocked. The first was a pile of snow, fence high, and filling the entire way between the narrowly shoveled sidewalk in front of two adjoining neighbors who were prominent supporters of the LHD (as was I, less publicly). The second was a large portion of the public alley alongside the Custom House Maritime Museum. The third was the sidewalk on either side of the Historical Society’s Cushing House Museum.
I would have expected a greater spirit of community respect and responsibility from each of these parties. Walking in already congested streets is unsafe. I was most grateful to the city and the DPS for a clean dry boardwalk, good walking on the rail trail, and to those private citizens whose sidewalks ensured an otherwise safe 2.8-mile circuit.
