Newburyport Daily News
---- — To the editor:
With the lead sponsorship of Visiting Angels and Angels at Home, two of the area’s home health agencies, The Friends of Newburyport Council on Aging conducted a major fundraising silent auction at Hope Church in late September. Area businesses and individuals responded generously with auction items and assistance to help the Council on Aging’s transportation program whose budget has been restricted by prolonged high gas prices and equipment maintenance costs.
We thank local authors and artists for their contributions: Keith Ablow, M.D., Ralph Ayers, Neville Baia, Robert Brun, Karen Cameron, Herbert Crooks, Jean Doyle, Andre Dubus lll, Bill Duke, Miller Graf, Joanna Hammond, Hailey Klein, Bob La France, John Lagoulis, Mark Sullivan and Ghlee Woodworth for their creativity.
Gift certificates were offered by Actors Studio, Angie’s Service Station, Angie’s Restaurant, Anton’s Cleaners, Atria Merrimack Place, Beach Plum Too, Captain’s Fishing Parties, Carry Out Cafe, Chococoa, Glenn’s, Giuseppe’s, A Hair better, Latitudes, Mad Martha’s, Market Square Jewelers, Market Square Optical, Mr. India, Natural Dog, Newburyport Whale Watch, Noyes Auto Service, Panda Cleaners, Plum Island Grille, Port City Salon, Salon Bellisimo, Starboard Galley, Village Pet Shop and Ithaki of Ipswich, Jonathan’s Restaurant of Ogunquit and Stoneham’s Felicia’s Restaurant and Theater. Many anonymous donors contributed items for the “flea market” tables staffed by Peggy Jean, Gage Mayott, Carolyn Kyle and Joann Boover.
Refreshments were provided by Betty Abby Stearns. We thank the promotional activities by The Newburyport Daily News, the Newburyport Current, the Town Common, WNBP, Mary Carrier and Signage with the help of the local Department of Public Services.
All this could never have been accomplished without many of the individuals aforementioned, the services of Jack Ronan, Russ and Sandy Seguin, the teamwork of the Boards of the Council on Aging and of the “Friends” and those who came to browse and buy while listening to the tunes of Bob Allison’s Lighthouse Trio.
How grateful we are for such a supportive community!
President, Friends of Newburyport COA
