To the Editor:
On behalf of the Parks Commission, I want to thank everyone who attended and supported the inaugural fundraiser for the Newburyport Parks Conservancy on Thursday night, 3/14 at Mission Oak Grill. The positive turnout was encouraging, a positive first step and is an indicator as to how important the city parks are to residents lives and how parks contribute to the overall quality of life in our community.
The Parks Commission was established in 1996 and since then our most consistent challenge has been the lack of adequate funding to support capital improvements and ongoing maintenance for the city’s parks. Hence, one of our top priorities has been to establish the Newburyport Parks Conservancy to supplement limited city resources. With the support of the Mayor Gayden Morrill Charitable Foundation and Mayor Holaday, the Newburyport Parks Conservancy, which is a private non-profiit, is now accepting donations which are tax deductible. 100% of your donations will be invested for the benefit of our parks.
This is just the beginning.
Do you cherish the beauty and splendor of Atkinson Common?
Do you enjoy the Rail Trail and think its been a positive addition to the city?
Did you appreciate the recent improvements to Joppa Park?
Do you attend the Winter Carnival and take part in Yankee Homecoming events at Bartlet Mall?
Do you hike or walk your dog in Moseley Pines or use the pavilion there?
The Conservancy has the opportunity to play an important role in improving and maintaining these special places and the quality of our city’s parks both now and into the future. However, the Conservancy’s success relies on your donations to build this endowment. So whether you not you attended the fundraiser, we encourage you to consider a donation to the Conservancy both now, to get us started, and annually.
To contribute you have the following options. Either go to www.newburyportparks.org or mail your donation to:
