A thought about making mistakes

To the editor:

In the report on the debate between Richard Sullivan and Donna Holaday, Sullivan was reported to say that he could not think of any mistakes that he had made. This takes me back to the many years working as an engineer when I would often be moved to say, “There is no shame in making occasional mistakes; the only way to avoid making mistakes is to not do anything.”
