Menin will serve interests of all citizens

To the editor:

We were very pleased to learn more regarding Bruce Menin in Monday’s paper, having been somewhat aware of his positions of service for more years than we have lived here, and are impressed with his credentials in his campaign for City Council. He had come to our attention from his role and stands on the School Committee, which have sharpened no few issues for us. Now we feel Newburyport will do well to have him on the council and we urge all voters to give him strong consideration at voting time.

His commentary a few weeks ago, “Where do the children play?” showed that he has deep roots in Newburyport and a passion for schools and the communities that surround them; it was one of the most well-written pieces regarding those matters, in our memory.

We were also lucky to come across what was apparently a position piece of his from nearly two years ago on “Restoring the Community: A Different Approach to School Discipline,” which was a highly enlightened look at how we respond to students of unacceptable behavior or who violate norms and make poor choices. His was a redemptive path for such pupils.

Now we feel that his mind-set and dedication to openness and effective process will serve broader issues that all citizens, should Mr. Menin now gain a seat on the Council.
