'Frankenstein' an outstanding production

To the editor:

This letter is to remind Newburyporters what a treasure we have in the Newburyport High School drama program. We have not seen many of their productions, but those we have seen have been excellent both dramatically and technically.

Currently running is “Frankenstein,” a remarkably faithful dramatisaton of the essence of 21-year-old Mary Shelley’s early 19th century masterpiece. This story of an eccentric scientist determined to create life from death seems compellingly premonitory of the hazards inherent in modern scientific efforts such as creating life through cloning and manipulating it through genetic modification.

All of the actors turn in credible performances, but at the top of the list are Morgan Pyle as the Creature and Izzy Sarra as DeLacey. Their sensitive interpretations of these characters are remarkable.

For some hard-to-understand reason, this theater program receives no financial support from the school, but gets all of its funding from ticket sales and fundraisers. Please support this outstanding group by attending one of the remaining performances on Nov. 14, 15 or 16. I think you’ll be glad you did.
