Artful Feast a success for community

To the editor:

If you didn’t make the Newburyport Art Association’s 12th Annual Art Auction, you missed a very special evening celebrating the arts, and community outreach through the arts, right here in our very own backyard. The sold-out crowd of patrons and artists enjoyed an incredible spread of champagne, wine and beer and fine food beautifully orchestrated by NAA Artful Feast reception crew, packed the Sargent & Hills Galleries to view the works during the reception and silent auction, and then squeezed into the beautifully lit tent set up behind our historic building to take part in the Artful Feast’s live auction. The silent auction offered over 70 art and non-art items and the live auction included 86 works of art. Preliminary results indicate a 30 percent increase over 2012 results. Nearly 100 percent of the works went off to their new homes by the end of the evening!

We were joined by the Institution for Savings — our lead sponsor — & Matter Communications, Inc. and NMTW Community Credit Union as the major sponsors. A special thank-you goes out to the NAA’s Auction Committee — Mindy Moore (auction chair), Kim Litle (auction chair), Susan Spellman, Juliet Alsina, Lisa Riordon, Annemarie Smith and Pat Greeley — and to the dozens of wonderful NAA volunteers, our in-kind sponsors and partners who provided goods and services and helped create especially enticing silent and live auctions. We express special gratitude to John McInnis of John McInnis Auctioneers in Amesbury. But most of all, the event would not have been possible without the generous support and donations of works by our artist members — thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.

To all who participated in and supported our 2013 Artful Feast Art Auction, the Newburyport Art Association — your community’s very own art association — thank you for helping make our primary fundraiser of the year such a special event and a tremendous success. Our shared efforts will make it possible for us to execute the NAA’s mission of service to our community through the arts going forward. On behalf of the NAA Board of Directors and membership, thank you.
