Newburyport Daily News
---- — To the editor:
How does one measure the value of a life when in a small space of time the world was touched?
Thousands of people have been moved by a sweet young woman through song, dance, voice and a twinkle in her eyes.
What a privilege it will be for me to deliver words of thanks on behalf of Mike and Kathy and two exceptional young men, Mike and Andrew.
This is a family, along with all of us, that endures a heavy heart and yet by selfless action they have shown us the way to reconciliation. They personify the infinity of love. They remind us of the futility of sorrow and that to carry on is the only resolution.
The event will be a delightful experience for me.
There under the hot lights I will look out to an invisible audience enshrouded in blackness.
I will surely feel the anticipation of the musicians who perceptibly reveal their excitement with subtle notes randomly escaping their instruments.
I will also hear the shuffling of feet behind the curtains and the hyped-up whispers.
There, in the company of artistic people I will be immersed in Jackie’s world.
This is what she lived for! Being on stage!
And she loved this experience not because it brought joy to herself in a solitary way.
But because from a very young age she discovered that being here was the most powerful way she could fulfill the sole purpose of her life.
And that purpose was to make people happy.
There will be countless people to thank.
And so in a feeble way, I’ll do it here too ... thank you everyone!
This special night we will gather to celebrate a life lived.
We will cry... and we will laugh.
But we will also remember Jackie
Please join us in celebrating the life, passion and talent of Jackie Kastrinelis at the first annual benefit concert. It is planned for Saturday, June 29, at Pentucket High School at 7 p.m.
