More thoughts on creative yards

To the editor:

I would like to add the following thoughts to the welcome article by Dean Fosdick (July 17, “Creativity by the Yard: Thinking beyond grass):

(1) Remember that there is a huge industry out there that wants you to buy their products and spends billions trying to shape your esthetics. Monsanto is a good example.

(2) “Weeds” in the lawn can add a pleasing visual texture, just like wood grains make furniture pleasing to look at.

(3) Think of adding edible perennials to your mix. Check out Food Forest Farm.

(4) Investigate where cedar mulch chips are coming from and what ecosystems are being depleted to provide you with them.
