To the editor:
On behalf of this year’s golf committee, please accept this letter to thank everyone who helped to make the Amesbury Chamber of Commerce’s 25th Annual Golf Tournament a terrific day. Similar to how it takes a village to raise a child, this grand event was made possible due to the support of many loyal volunteers, a hard-working staff and over 100 area businesses, including Tournament Sponsor The Provident Bank. We are tremendously thankful to each and every one of them! It was a perfect day on the links at Wentworth by the Sea Country Club.
With temps in the upper 70s and a light breeze, we couldn’t have asked for better weather. Right from the start, the club’s crew was like a well-oiled machine, taking golf bags from cars upon check-in and delivering everything to the assigned carts. After a delicious buffet lunch and optional massage therapy, our 120-plus participants hit the course with their swag bags for a shotgun start with scramble format. As in recent years, I’m told many players enjoyed the surprises they were greeted with at most holes, such as premium cigars, tropical punch and blackjack.
Upon their return to the clubhouse, there was plenty of time for cocktails, hors d’ oeuvres and bidding on silent auction items before finally sitting down to a delicious dinner and hearing the tournament results. While many took their best shot at getting the lowest scores, taking First Place Gross was the Amesbury Dental Associates foursome of Dr. Henry Cheney, Rocco Basso, John Ostrowosky and Mike Carter. Second Place Gross went to the Wojcicki Development foursome of Mark Wojcicki, Tim Johnson, Marcus Green and Jeff Hume. Our First Place Net winning team was the Chase & Lunt Insurance foursome of Jay Howlett, Ed Howlett, Mark Bailey and Mike Howlett. The Second Place Net team was the foursome from Coffey Design & Build, including Bryce Anderson, Barry Pray, Mike Hackett and Thomas Weable.
