Fundraisers focus on food for the hungry

To the editor:

The officers and board members of Pennies for Poverty wish to thank the Newburyport and Salisbury branches of Institution for Savings for running a highly successful fund-raising effort during the month of June. Money raised in Newburyport will support the work of the Salvation Army and Community Service. Money raised in Salisbury will help Pettengill House.

Pennies for Poverty raises money to help alleviate the effects of poverty in the area. The money raised is recycled through the local economy by buying gift cards from locally owned farms, stores and businesses. The gift cards are then donated to anti-poverty agencies for the benefit of their clients. This summer’s major focus is improving the quality of food provided to hungry families by purchasing gift cards at Tendercrop Farm and Colby Farm in Newbury, David’s Fish Market in Salisbury and Cider Hill Farm in Amesbury.
