Duck race raises $6,500 for Amesbury schools

To the editor:

The Amesbury Rotary Club would like to thank everyone who supported our 3nd annual Powow River Duck Race, held on June 29. This year’s event raised $6,500 for the Amesbury schools.

The Amesbury Millyard was lined with onlookers of all ages for the dumping of the ducks at the Pond Street bridge. After much anticipation, the ducks tumbled down the falls, bobbed their way down the river and were collected at the finish line (by the bridge to the upper Millyard).

Congratulations to the top three prizewinners, who received the following: first place, $1,000 cash, Jay Knapp; second place, four Boston Red Sox tickets, Roy Hammond; and third place, a four-pack of tickets to the Boston Duck Tours, Trisha and Brian Butler.

Thank you to our corporate sponsors, Stone Ridge Properties and Cathy Toomey, for the Hot Duck sponsorships. We would also like to thank our Gold Duck sponsors: the Newburyport Five Cents Savings Bank; the Institution for Savings; Align Credit Union, Arc Technologies, First Payroll and Eric Fournier; Dolan Financial Services; Northern Essex Community College and the Amesbury Edward Jones office. These sponsorships will allow us to provide scholarships to high school students and new gym equipment for all four Amesbury schools.

We would also like to thank the DPW of Amesbury for the use of their equipment to dump the ducks, and their assistance with increasing water levels in the river.
