A great season for NBBA

To the editor:

Thanks to everyone — coaches, parents, players, board members, refs, custodians, school officials, Hope Church, etc. — for another great Newburyport Boys Basketball Association season! Including the ninth annual NBBA In-Town Tournament, our teams played more than 260 games this season, plus two practice sessions each week. We had a record number of teams and players: 13 teams in our in-town leagues; five travel teams; and six teams in D-League. That's a lot of boys playing lots of basketball from November to March.

NBBA In-Town Tournament winners: fifth-sixth grade division — Hoyas; seventh-eighth grade division — Mavericks

The eighth-grade boys travel team won the Division 2 championship in the Cape Ann Youth Basketball league.

We also want to thank high school boys varsity coach Tom L'Italien and athletic director John Daileanes for all their support. The NHS boys team had another tremendous season, finishing with a 14-6 record and top 4 seed in the North Division 3 sectional. They also won the team sportsmanship award for the second year in a row. It's fun watching the boys who started in the NBBA succeed at the high school level.

Next season will be 10th anniversary of the NBBA, so we are planning some special events. The NBBA is truly a community effort, and we thank everyone for their involvement.
