Zimmerman trial wasn't about race

To the editor:

We have a black president, so we have come a long way, right? I think so, but to listen to President Obama one would think not. Why doesn’t he recognize how far we have come as a nation? When he interjected that “if I had a son, he would look like Trayvon,” he created division among the races and now the mainstream media and a bunch of other loonies are making this tragedy about race. The Zimmerman case was never about race! It is a tragedy that Trayvon Martin lost his life, but George Zimmerman feared for his life, and rightly so, because though a young man,Trayvon was bigger than Zimmerman. Also, according to testimony, Trayvon was on top of Zimmerman and was beating him and threatening to kill him. George Zimmerman got a fair trial and was correctly declared innocent because he acted in self-defense.
