To the editor:
Well over 200 people helped launch the “Opportunity Works in Haverhill” Capital Campaign last Thursday during a fun and informative reception at DiBurro’s Function Facility in Haverhill. Plans for our new building project behind and abutting Northern Essex Community College were very well received. The beautiful melodies sung by Opportunity Sings! Chorus, ably led by Phil and Sandy Comeau, were the highlight of our evening. We gratefully acknowledge and thank the individuals who made the evening such a huge success.
We are grateful to The Daily News of Newburyport, the Eagle Tribune and WHAV.net for publicizing the event and Eagle Tribune managing editor Gretchen Putnam for serving as a masterful MC for the evening’s program. We thank Matt Belfiore, Mary O’Neil and Jay LaFond from Haverhill Community Television for taping the event for broadcast and providing other media assistance.
We were honored with an invocation by the Rev. Dr. Howard Lawrence and supportive remarks from Haverhill Mayor James Fiorentini and our state senator, Kathleen O’Connor Ives. Our executive director, Jane Harris-Fale, Ken Moran from the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services and Diane Fasulo, a longtime advocate for people with disabilities, all explained the need for the new facility and how it will benefit all the communities we serve here in the Merrimack Valley. Dr. Lane Glenn welcomed us with open arms as president of our new neighbors, Northern Essex Community College.
We are also deeply appreciative of the materials that were expertly prepared by Dianne McDermott of McDermott and Company Marketing in Haverhill. As always, the DiBurro family were the perfect hosts and their many kindnesses are also appreciated.
The Opportunity Works Board of Directors, members of our still-growing Capital Campaign Committee and the dedicated and caring staff at Opportunity Works can be very proud of the evening they helped create. Development Director Deborah Andrews and our executive assistant, Christine Crutcher, deserve special note here.
We thank the many area elected officials, including Newburyport Mayor Donna Holaday, for bringing the good tidings of their respective communities and constituents. Most of all, we are so very grateful to all of our friends and neighbors who came out to be inspired by the Opportunity Works story and learn how we all can improve our quality of life and build a better community by contributing to the building of this new facility that will serve and support adults with disabilities and their families.
