Thanks for supporting Newbury library

Newburyport Daily News

---- — To the editor:

The Friends of the Newbury Town Library Plant and Bake Sale Fundraiser on Saturday, May 18, was extremely successful. In fact, we raised just over $1000. As you know, all of these funds will go back into servicing our library and its programs. Of course, we would not have been quite so successful without the help and generosity of many people.

First, allow us to thank our donors: Molly Janicki, of Bayberry Nurseries in Hampton, NH, who donated so many of the beautiful plants we sold; Flowers on Main in Byfield and Landscape Planners, who donated beautiful plants; Tim Lamprey at the Harbor Garden Center in Salisbury, who donated a gift certificate; Home Depot in Seabrook, N.H., which donated lovely plants; Pam Kinney of Byfield who went above and beyond the call of duty with her large plant donation. Also, thank you to the many anonymous donors of plants and baked goods who often times left their donations without us ever getting a chance to see them to thank them in person.

Secondly, we would like to thank our wonderful, tireless volunteers: Mary Leary, Mike Doyle, Pamela Brown, Margaret Grimes, and Catherine Dullea. Without you and your efforts before, during, and after the plant sale, we would not have been able to make it as successful as it was. We thank you and offer you our admiration for your efforts.

Thirdly, thank you to everyone who came out on Saturday and purchased a plant, munched on a baked good, and stopped to chat with us. It was beautiful to witness people helping each other in their plant choices and others educating all of us on specific plants and what they might become as they grow. It was beautiful, too, to see neighbors meet for the first time and find out how much they have in common. In fact, one man stopped to chat with me and say how delighted he was to see the library becoming the community center he had always hoped it would be.

On that note, we would like to thank the library staff and volunteers who have worked with such quiet fortitude to turn our library from a building that strangers use into a place where community congregates. It is you who creates the spirit that has helped us become this community of friends. We, your friends, thank you so very much for your work and we continue to support you in your efforts.
