On behalf of the congregation of the First United Methodist Church/Rock Church-Amesbury, I want to thank the people who attended the July 4th pancake breakfast that has come to be known as “Pancakes in the Pines.” This community event has been a part of Amesbury Days since the town’s 300th anniversary celebration in 1968. While this event continues to be a tradition where families and friends gather, it is also a fundraiser for the ministries of our church. This year’s profit will be used to “spruce up” the outside of the parish house that is home to two of our community ministries, Best Foot Forward and the Pregnancy Care Center.
On a related note, some people have asked if the Rock Church-Amesbury is a new church. It is not a new church but a new name for what has been known as First United Methodist Church. We are the same congregation, but are now in partnership with the larger Rock Church-Plaistow. This has helped us to continue our outreach programs to the community. In addition to the Pregnancy Care Center and Best Foot Forward, we also offer a monthly dessert/worship service at the Towers, conduct semi-monthly worship services at a local nursing home and co-sponsor Kids’ Day at the Park. Our building is also home to James Place, the nonprofit out-of-school program.
Besides having a new name, the Rock Church-Amesbury now offers a blended worship service, with a praise band for contemporary worship while keeping parts of traditional worship services. Our mission has not changed. That is to bring the hope of eternal life through Jesus Christ to those around us.
