To the editor:
We spotted an ad last week requesting suggestions for a name for the new elementary school being built in Newburyport on the former Bresnahan School baseball and playing fields. The metal framework of the new elementary school is just about complete. But It is much larger and closer to abutters’ homes than artist’s renderings suggested. So much larger that we believe the school should be named after a phrase used many times by Herman Melville to describe the white whale Moby Dick: “Leviathan.”
Members and supporters of the Committee for an Open Waterfront should take heed of this. Artist’s renderings done for developers can easily mislead viewers, and are often a subtle form of propaganda.
