O'Connor Ives represents all the voters

To the editor:

I had to smile in reading how Kathleen O’Connor Ives has lost a supporter over her non-progressive votes in the Massachusetts state Senate. As a right-leaning Independent, I voted for Ms. O’Connor Ives in the hopes she would do exactly what she is doing. The scope of her representation is not strictly limited to Progressive Democrats, and as a representative of our entire community, I am thrilled she is showing the ability to think for herself.

Maybe Progressives haven’t noticed that our Democratic-controlled state is severely scarred by one-party rule, strict party line voting, massive state bureaucracies, out-of-control political corruption and runaway taxes.

Did we elect Ms. O’Connor Ives to toe the party line or try to fix things? Most people I know would say the latter. And to that I say thank goodness!
