To the editor:
The friends of Bob Welch committee want to thank all those involved in the recent Great Golf Ball Drop raffle for a successful event. The unique fundraiser of dropping hundreds of numbered golf balls on a mock one-hole green gave out prizes for closest to the pin and several other money prizes including two prizes for being the farthest from the pin.
The winners of the golf ball drop raffle were: Sally Anderson, closest to the pin for $500 The second through five from the pin received $100 each and included John Elwell, second; Robert Smith, third; Richie Eaton, fourth; and John Elwell again for fifth.
The two farthest from the pin receiving $50 each were: Mary DuGrenier and Neil Shea.
The committee would like to thank the high school administration, Principal Mike Parent and Building and Grounds supervisor Steve Bergholm for the use of the field. A big thanks to Michael Steer, owner of Seaport Signworks, and his crew for making their cherry picker available for the drop and providing an advertising banner for the raffle. The committee would also like to thank those who sent in a contribution for this worthy cause.
The committee members present at the ball drop were Robert “Boots” Chouinard, Jack Welch, Jon Foley, John Mulvany and Carl Beal.
The golf ball drop raffle was one of two fundraisers being used to raise funds for the naming of the High School Fitness Center for Robert J Welch, a longtime physical education teacher and coach at NHS. The committee has $4,000 to go to reach their goal and will continue to accept donations through the month of June.
